USB is a very easy method to connect devices to a computer. However, the drawback is that the USB port also provides power to devices that need is (usually external hard drives, scanners, anything with lights, etc.
This mini 4-port USB hub is only half an inch tall and is powered by an external AC power supply (but it will work without power supply as well). The power supply ensures that ALL devices hooked up to the hub will have enough power. This power supply provides a whopping 2,200mA to all ports. Most other powered hubs include just a wimpy power supply that maxes out at about 600mA.The hub is USB 2.0 compliant, will also work with USB 1.1 devices and computers and has an LED status light that shows you it's working. It's Plug-and-Play ready, so all you have to do is unpack it, hook it up and you're in business.
Beware of auctions advertising "self -powered hubs". Those are the hubs that get their power from the computer and are always underpowered. An AC powered hub is more expensive, but as always you get what you pay for...
