This device installs on an internet-connected computer (laptop or desktop, dial-up or broadband), and it will then convert the internet connection into a wireless network that your gaming device can connect to. (as long as it is WiFi capable itself, of course!) Furthermore, this is not just a WiFi access point for your video game console, but MUCH more!
If you have any other computer (laptops?) that have a wireless card built in, those, too, can connect to this and get out to the internet. And this device is so versatile, you can even install it on a regular laptop computer and configure it as a regular WiFi adapter, so that the laptop can connect to wireless networks at the library, Starbucks, anywhere there's an available network... It's super-easy: plug in the device, install the software (do not let the Windows Hardware Wizard install it, use the provided installer), turn on your device, configure it for wireless access and it will "see" the new network and connect to the net. SO EASY, MY GRANDMA CAN DO IT! (and yours probably too!) (still: read the manual FIRST)
And because it's USB connected, you can easily hook it up to a friend's computer and go on-line at THEIR house!!!

And again... this card is more than just a client card. It can be configured as either (and can be changed at will): - Wireless Access Point (AP) for gaming consoles and other wireless computers

This means that you can set up your own WiFi network from your desktop or laptop, wherever you are! If your computer also has a wired network card, it can redistribute the internet network connection.
The 26-page manual on included CD with drivers and configuration program is written in English and is very understandable. Not English written by someone in China who speaks Chinese very well, but barely speaks English. This manual actually goes into great depth, explaining the differences between the four operating modes and how this card gets its speed.
